Making Essential Healthcare Accessible for Non-English Speaking Communities

Respond Crisis Translation is committed to bringing vital information. According to ACOG, roughly one-quarter of women in the United States access abortion care in their lifetime. In Respond, we know that barriers to abortion exacerbate existing societal disparities, and we strongly believe in translating any resources that will prevent these barriers for all women.

Recently, we partnered with South Asian SOAR.

SOAR was founded in 2021 to address the urgent need for collaboration, unity, and innovation. It established a collective, national movement for joy, healing, and justice in the South Asian diaspora.

SOAR reached out to Respond to translate an abortion fact sheet titled ‘Your Guide to Reproductive Health and Wellness, Topic: Abortion Care’ that contained vital information on abortion. This brochure deals with the types of abortions, abortion pills, the aftermath of an abortion and the possible risks of having an abortion, among other items that are important to know before going through this medical procedure.

Respond’s translated SOAR’s fact sheet into Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Nepali, Kannada, Sinhala, Arabic, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati

Urdu, Sylheti, Sindhi, Assamese, Oriya, Dari, Farsi, Pashto and Punjabi.

Twelve translators worked on the project. We have no words to describe our gratitude for their commitment and professionalism when translating this sensitive material that will reach many women worldwide.

We want to thank our wonderful friends from SOAR for letting us be part of this important project and our Project Managers, Uma and Ayah. They guided their excellent translators. This work would not be possible without them!

Respond will continue translating essential resources that are helpful for women and immigrants worldwide and continue working hard to ensure everyone can access information crucial to their well-being.
