California Welcoming Task Force: Rapid Response Translation of Crucial Border Policy Changes
As the Biden administration begins to unravel Title 42 and MPP, chaos at the border ensues as asylum seekers struggle to figure out what is happening with changing immigration policies.
To address this, Respond Crisis Translation is working in collaboration with partners including Al Otro Lado, Immigrant Defenders, Immigrant Law Lab, and FWD.us to keep asylum seekers who have been stuck in Mexico under MPP informed on the latest updates in U.S. immigration law.
In order to make the policy updates accessible to the folks who are affected by them, Respond is also partnering with CIELO to rapidly translate and distribute policy updates into Mam, Q’iche, Quechua, Kichwa, Achi, Chalchiteco, Kanji, Kanjobal, Qʼeqchiʼ, Ka’chikel, Popti’, Portuguese, Spanish, Haitian Creole and French.
This effort is part of a larger binational coalition - the California Welcoming Task Force - which seeks to re-envision how asylum seekers at the southern border are welcomed into the U.S. by coordinating across sectors: humanitarian, legal, health, advocacy and communications.
We are grateful to be able to support this crucial effort and to the translators making this critical work happen.
