Respond-translated “war diary” illuminates survival, resilience in Gaza

Day Twenty – Thursday, October 26, 2023

Thank God that we are still alive. Thank God for the blessing of a new day.

Today we all sat around in my brother’s place: my cousins’ daughters, the wives of two of my brothers, and me. I suggested a fun game, which involved asking the question “Where do you see yourself in ten years?” as a way to instill optimism and encourage us to think about the future.

But most of the answers were: “We just want to see ourselves alive tomorrow. That’s as far as we can see.”

In “War Diary,” published by AGNI Magazine at Boston University, Nahil Mohana shares moments from her life in Gaza from October 7-29th, 2023.

Respond Crisis Translation linguist Mohamed Fenzari translated much of this dispatch from Arabic to English. “War Diary” represents one of the many projects Respond’s Arabic Team has tirelessly taken on in order to raise awareness of and intervene against the escalating violence against Palestinians in Gaza.
