Domestic violence survivor has won her asylum case

We are grateful to our partner Al Otro Lado for sharing this story with our team at Respond Crisis Translation. Respond played a vital role in ensuring the success of this case, which would have been impossible without the commitment and language expertise that all of our incredible volunteer translators bring to this work everyday. All victories in immigration cases deserve to be celebrated, and we are honored to be able to share this story with our network.

B.R.P., originally from Mexico, is an asylum-seeker and survivor of severe domestic violence. She was detained at Otay Mesa Detention Center for nearly a year where she suffered separation from her children. Respond Crisis Translation translated a long declaration that B.R.P.'s attorney used for trial preparation. In spite of the restrictive asylum laws that make asylum nearly impossible to obtain on the basis of domestic violence, B.R.P. has won her case!
