Bringing HIAS’ Financial Literacy Curriculum to Spanish, Russian, Farsi, Nepali, Burmese, Dari and Pashto Speakers!

Respond has been working with HIAS over the last year to make their Financial Literacy curriculum entirely available, in both written translation and audio recording, to refugee clients in Spanish, Russian, and Farsi. Now, Respond’s Nepali, Burmese, Dari and Pashto teams are beginning work on the curriculum!

HIAS’ Financial Literacy curriculum began as a classroom teaching tool and one-on-one training for refugee clients. After building out a sophisticated online platform to make the curriculum accessible to refugee clients throughout the pandemic shutdowns, we at Respond were very excited to be able to help make the curriculum linguistically accessible to recently arrived folks, as well as those with less English proficiency.

The curriculum is detailed and extensive, and required hundreds of pages to be translated, and about 20 hours spent per language recording and editing the accompanying audio files. We are so grateful to the 20 translators and project managers who have worked on this project from its inception, as well as those currently working on the Nepali, Burmese, Dari and Pashto versions! And thank you of course to our wonderful friends and colleagues at HIAS!
