We are looking for an Arabic Team Lead

In order to ensure we can provide consistent, high-quality language support to Arabic speaking asylum seekers, Respond Crisis Translation is looking for someone who can lead the work of our Arabic Team. 

Half-time position

Requirements for the role:

  • Must be a native Arabic speaker and translator/interpreter and/or translation project manager with fully fluent oral and written Arabic and English. 

  • Ability to efficiently navigate Google Suite as most of our work happens via Google Sheets, Docs, Gmail.

  • Highly responsive and capable of doing efficient, high-quality project management work with a fast turnaround.

  • Must have a trauma-informed lens, a gender-informed and LGBTQ-informed lens, and a capacity to understand and work with vulnerable populations especially at risk across the Arabic-speaking world. This includes LGBTQ+ people, women, and survivors of gender-based violence. 

  • Ability to lead a team in a communicative, empathetic, and efficient manner. 

 

This role entails:

  • Recruiting: Recruiting more qualified people to grow our team of Arabic translators and interpreters! 

  • Screening: Conducting a screening test to determine whether new team members are qualified to join the team. This includes administering and grading a written translation screening as well as an oral interpretation screening over the phone.   

  • Project management for written translation: As cases come in where documents must be translated, you will be responsible for assigning these documents to a qualified translator on the team, ensuring the document is ready in advance of the deadline, and ensuring the final work is proofread and fully accurate / of excellent quality.  Documents are often for asylum cases meaning that timeliness is critical.  

  • Project management for oral interpreting: As cases come up where refugees and asylum seekers need an oral interpreter, you will be responsible for setting up the session with a qualified and screened oral interpreter and ensuring the session goes well. 

  • Quality assurance and tracking: Keeping track of how many hours of oral interpreting and how many written cases our team is completing. Ensuring the highest quality of all translation projects and that all people joining the team have the necessary language qualifications in addition to the ability to work in contexts where the client has experienced violence and trauma. 

  • Leadership and communication: As the leader of the Arabic team, you will communicate daily with the members of the team and also represent Respond Crisis Translation in interactions with partners, organizations, and clients.

Stipend and time commitment:

  • We will be paying a monthly $1,000 USD stipend to the person who takes on this role. This is a half-time position.
