Afghan Languages Lead

As Respond's Afghan Languages Team Lead, Uma has led a team of 40 Dari and Pashto language practitioners in translating humanitarian parole, asylum applications, and other critical resources for thousands of Afghan individuals and families in addition to providing hundreds of hours of emergency language support. Uma is fluent in Dari, Pashto, Persian, English, and Urdu. With extensive experience as a translator and interpreter, Uma has worked with various embassies and international organizations, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), and the United States Department of Homeland Security (USDHS)/United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) team, serving as an interpreter, Visa Officer, and administrative assistant.

In addition to her impressive credentials, Uma has also worked as a teacher, Finance Officer, Administration Officer, and Project Manager.

When she's not working, Uma enjoys writing poems and creating oil paintings.
