Juan Camilo Mendez

Juan Camilo is an immigration attorney who specializes in representing survivors of domestic violence at HarborCOV in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He has worked with Respond since 2019 as a translator, interpreter, and project manager.

Previously, he was a Co-Director at Pangea Legal Services, a horizontal, democratically managed organization, where represented detained and non-detained immigrants. He was also an associate at a large law firm in San Francisco.

During law school, Juan Camilo defended folks with complex criminal issues facing deportation as part of the Immigrant Rights Clinic, served as an executive editor of the Review of Law and Social Change, and clerked for the Immigrant Legal Resource Center.

Before law school, Juan Camilo lived in rural Morocco serving as a youth development volunteer in the Peace Corps. He then worked as a program leader for a non-profit specializing in cross-cultural education in Spain and Morocco.

Juan Camilo graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (go heels) with a bachelor’s in history and political science. A Dean’s Scholar and Ford Foundation Fellow, he received his law degree from New York University.He speaks Spanish and the Moroccan dialect of Arabic. He loves fútbol, rice and beans, and sci-fi novels.
