Fernanda de Oliveira
Chair, Board of Directors
Fernanda is a member of Respond’s Board of Directors. She is one of the founding members of Respond, having started the Spanish team and Portuguese team. She formerly led Respond Crisis Translation’s Brazilian Portuguese team in addition to Respond’s Communications efforts. In these capacities, she has supported dozens of Brazilian asylum seekers experiencing detention in Mexico and the U.S., and she created strategies to grow the reach and impact of Respond so that more asylum seekers can become aware of Respond’s resources and services. Her passion for this work is inspired by her experience as a Brazilian migrant who has lived in the U.S., Mexico, and Nicaragua and who grew up in Minas Gerais witnessing family members fleeing to the U.S.
Fernanda is an expert in educational marketing, a social justice translator, and a trilingual educator. Previously, she worked as the founder of a social impact digital marketing agency, as the Google for Education content and digital marketing strategy lead in Latin America, and as a higher education leader improving English language education for thousands of Brazilian students. She currently creates resources for English language learners around the world as a program manager at National Geographic Learning.
