Pierre Seide Beaubrun

Haitian Creole Project Manager & Finance Department Lead

“Working for Respond has given me the opportunity to do something that I love doing and something that I get appreciated for. Even though I had to deal with some tough situations, like testing positive for Covid and all, it was a very positive experience for me.”

What do you do professionally/ what is your professional title (when you’re not volunteering with Respond)?

Besides volunteering with Respond, I am a Real Estate Broker in the State of Florida and I’m currently leading the Finance Department for Respond.

What language(s) do you translate?

Haitian Creole

What’s something about the language(s) you translate that people wouldn’t necessarily know?

People would not necessarily know that there are different kinds of Creole dialects.

What motivates you to be a part of Respond? What do you like the most about being on the Respond team?

What motivates me to be part of Respond is that Respond has given me the opportunity to do something that I’ve always been passionate about.

What I like the most is the support and appreciation you get. It feels like real teamwork.

How do you care for your mental health? What part of this work is the most challenging for your mental health?

I care for my mental health by relaxing, exercising and spending quality times with my family; especially my 4-year old son who is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Can you describe the impact this work has had on your life?

It has been very amazing. Although it was very hard for people to cope with life during the pandemic for the past couple of years, life has changed for me. Working for Respond has given me the opportunity to do something that I love doing and something that I get appreciated for. Even though I had to deal with some tough situations, like testing positive for Covid and all, it was a very positive experience for me.

Language justice and democracy is one of our core beliefs at Respond. How would you define language justice in your own words?

Language justice is the opportunity to speak freely in any language that makes you feel  comfortable without people judging you.

Can you share a fun or little-known fact about yourself?

I ended up being a Culinary Chef just by experience; something that I would have never imagined doing even in my wildest dream.

I’m from an Island and I never learn how to swim.

Favorite word in any language? Why?!

“Maravillosa” because it sounds so romantic.
