We are looking for a Development Director
Respond Crisis Translation is a full-service rapid-response language access collective of 2,500 translators based in over 80 countries. We mobilize around-the-clock to provide life-critical trauma-informed interpretation and translation services to asylum seekers, refugees, and thousands of other individuals for whom language is a barrier to accessing safety, dignity, and support. We work to ensure language access and advocate for language rights across systems: asylum access, legal crises, humanitarian disasters, medical emergencies, schools, LGBTQ+ and disability rights, voter access, psychological services, research, journalism, and climate justice.
Respond Crisis Translation is looking for a committed and enthusiastic Development Director who is passionate about language access. The Development Director will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization.
Goals and Responsibilities
● Strategic Development :
Develop annual and long-range strategic and executional development plans in collaboration with the Respond leadership team
Lead the team in establishing development and revenue goals.
Manage and grow the development department in a fiscally sound manner by ensuring that the appropriate systems, staffing, and procedures are in place to support fundraising goals.
Manage and oversee other team members’ performance in the areas of grant-writing, reporting, and partner contributions.
Establish, maintain, and leverage a database of volunteers, donors and subscribers to further Respond’s development goals.
● Fundraising and Revenue Development:
Designing individual donor engagement strategy including:
Our approach with new, current, previous and recurring donors; segmentation
Our approach to acquiring and stewarding major donors
Our approach to peer-to-peer fundraising
Plan, administer, implement and refine all fundraising activities.
Research, cultivate, and directly solicit sponsorships and gifts.
Develop and maintain close working relationships with the philanthropic community, donors, and volunteers.
Represent Respond in public events.
Provide regular, detailed, and accurate reports on fundraising activities.
Collaborate closely with the communications team to implement development tactics through social media, PR, newsletter, and other external communications.
● Grant Application and Strategy:
Maintain a proactive and creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and tracking of corporate, foundation and government grants.
Train additional Respond staff members as appropriate in order to support grant writing activitiesResearch foundations and funders, gather information about the foundation/funder to find out about fit, application process, and more.
Write Letters of Inquiry to foundations and meet with funders as well as partners who we want to collaborate on proposals with us.
Write grant proposals.
● Board Building
Help build a strong Board of Directors that can help Respond open doors in the philanthropic world.
Requirements and Skills
Previous work experience as a Development Director.
Superb written and verbal communication skills to speak with donors and other stakeholders across the organization.
Work with fundraising software (such as Givebutter and Airtable) and tools to track progress throughout the year.
Excellent organizational and time management skills to help keep projects on track.
Hiring
This position could be a full time, part time or hourly consultant position. Rate and hiring modality will be determined based on the selected applicant’s availability and preference as agreed upon with the team.
